My name is Scott Folkens. I am 46 years old and have been married to my wife Jennine for over 25 years. We have 2 children - - Philip and Jessica. My wife is a San Bernardino area native and I moved into the San Bernardino area in 1974. With the exception of 8 years in the military, the 43rd District has been our home.

Education -- I graduated from Pacific High School in San Bernardino in 1980. I attended Valley College part time until I joined the Air Force. Once in the Air Force I continued my education through several colleges, finally receiving a Bachelor’s degree in History (with an emphasis in U.S. History) from CSU, Stanislaus in 1992. I then enrolled in the Chapman University teacher credentialing program and received my California Teaching Credential in 1993. I am in the process of renewing my credentials this Spring.

Military -- I enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in April 1985 and after my initial training I was sent to Okinawa, Japan. Upon finishing my tour, I was stationed at Castle Air Force Base in Atwater, CA. While serving my country, my performance reports were consistently “9s”, I was promoted Senior Airman below-the-zone, Staff Sergeant on my second attempt, and received numerous awards. Because of my desire to become a teacher, I was honorably discharged on December 31, 1992.

Other Employment -- Upon completion of my teacher credentialing program, I moved back into the San Bernardino area. After teaching for most of the school year with the San Bernardino County Schools, I was hired by Bloomington Christian School to lead their Social Sciences department. I am currently the Social Science Department Chairman as we complete our WASC accreditation.

Community and clubs -- I am currently a member at the Master’s Plan Church of the Nazarene where I lead Children’s Church and teach an adult Sunday School Class.

I am also on the Board of Directors for several local non-profit organizations.
